Pro-Abortion President Barack Obama Sees Approval Ratings Hit New Lows

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- President Barack Obama hit new lows today in his approval ratings measured by the Rasmussen Reports polling firm. The new low ratings follow closely on the heels of the Senate approving his pro-abortion nominee for the Supreme Court, Elena Kagan.

Obama's total approval rating now stands at 43 percent with 24 percent of Americans saying they strongly approve of the job Obama is now doing.

That stands in contrast with the 56 percent of Americans who disapprove of Obama's track record in the White House and a new high of 46 percent who strongly disapprove...

Kagan - a solid vote for homosexual 'marriage'

A judicial analyst with Focus on the Family says recently sworn-in Supreme Court Associate Justice Elena Kagan would be a sure vote favoring same-sex "marriage."

Kagan was sworn into the Supreme Court on Saturday. Legal experts say she will support same-gender marriage. But Bruce Hausknecht with Focus on the Family points out that Kagan may not be the only one on the bench who would do that.

"I firmly believe that Elena Kagan is a solid, liberal vote for same-sex marriage," he states. "The question is perhaps what does Justice [Anthony] Kennedy think about this. Since he wrote the Lawrence v. Texas opinion, he's provided evidence that he's in the camp of same-sex marriage"...

The cost of Kagan's confirmation

The Senate on Thursday confirmed Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, making her the fourth female to serve on the nation's highest court. The 50-year-old Harvard Law School graduate is scheduled to be sworn in Saturday (August 7). While Kagan's confirmation isn't a surprise for most, the possible backlash some lawmakers may face as a result of their vote could be.

On a Senate vote of 63-37 Kagan was expectedly awarded the top jurist job to the Supreme Court. Bob Knight, senior writer for Coral Ridge Ministries and senior fellow for American Civil Rights Union, says those who voted to confirm Kagan could pay a heavy price in the mid-term elections.

"Sixty-three senators are going to have to answer to their constituents why they put on the U.S. Supreme Court a woman who altered a report by physicians that said -- and I'll sum it up -- that there really aren't any circumstances to justify a partial-birth abortion," Knight explains.  read more »

Opponents of Pro-Abortion Elena Kagan's Supreme Court Bid Find Silver Lining

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- From the outset of President Barack Obama's nomination of pro-abortion activist Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court, her confirmation was virtually guaranteed. Today, the day after the Senate approved the nomination, Curt Levy of the Committee for Justice tries to find the silver lining.

With Democrats controlling nearly 60 votes, the ability of pro-life advocates and their Republican allies in the Senate to stop the nomination was difficult from the start.

But Levy, one of the top conservatives monitoring judicial nominees, says there is a silver lining that bodes well for those opposed to judicial activists who may be appointed to the high court in the future...

Senate confirms Kagan to Supreme Court

The Senate on Thursday confirmed Elena Kagan to serve on the Supreme Court, becoming the youngest of the court's nine justices and just the fourth woman in history to receive the lifetime appointment.

After three days of debate, the Senate on Thursday voted 63-37 to approve Ms. Kagan's nomination. Five Republicans supported her bid: Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Richard G. Lugar of Indiana, Judd Gregg of New Hampshire and Susan Collins and Olympia J. Snowe of Maine.

Only one Democrat, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, voted no...

Pro-Life Groups Seek Probe Into Kagan’s Clinton-Era Role in Partial Birth Abortion Debate

Washington (CNSNews.com) – More than 30 pro-life organizations are calling on senators to investigate Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan’s record with regards to partial-birth abortion while serving as a Clinton administration attorney.

The Senate Judiciary Committee already sent Kagan’s nomination to the full Senate for a vote, which is expected next week. President Barack Obama nominated Kagan, the U.S. solicitor general, to be an associate justice on the high court in May.

“The undersigned organizations are writing today to express our strong opposition to the confirmation of Elena Kagan to the United States Supreme Court,” the letter sent to all 100 senators on Wednesday said...

Judicial Watchdog Wants Elena Kagan Disbarred Over Abortion Distortions

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Larry Klayman, the judicial watchdog who is the founder of Judicial Watch and Freedom Watch USA, says he is filing papers to have Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan disbarred. He says he wants to see that happen because he believes Kagan misled the Senate Judiciary Committee during her hearings.

Klayman agrees with pro-life groups that say Kagan was not forthright when she downplayed the extent to which she lobbied two medical organizations to change their opinion on when partial-birth abortions are medically necessary.

Kagan's lobbying resulted in the Supreme Court, in a case striking down state partial-birth abortion bans, eventually relying on the opinion of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists that, after Kagan's prodding, changed its opinion to say some abortions may be medically indicated...

Pro-Life Groups Seek Probe on Kagan and Partial-Birth Abortion Before Vote

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A coalition of 30 pro-life organizations sent a letter to members of the Senate today asking for a thorough investigation of Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan. They are calling for a probe into her comments about partial-birth abortion and say she may have misled lawmakers.

The concern centers on comments she made about her time as a top policy staffer in the Clinton administration.

Although she told members of the Senate Judiciary Committee that she merely served at the pleasure of the president and tried to implement his policy vision, documents from her time there clearly showed her attempting to manipulate the opinion of two medical groups to make it appear partial-birth abortions are somehow necessary to protect women's health...

Former Surgeon General Koop Calls Kagan’s Alteration of ACOG’s Partial Birth Abortion Statement ‘Unethical’ and ‘Disgraceful’

(CNSNews.com) In an open letter delivered last week, former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop is urging senators to vote against Elena Kagan’s nomination to the Supreme Court, in light of her role in the alteration of a medical statement about partial-birth abortion from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).

“I was deeply disturbed to learn the Elena Kagan, the nominee for Supreme Court scheduled for a Senate committee vote next week, manipulated the medical policy statement on partial-birth abortion of a major medical organization, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) in January 1997,” Koop wrote in his letter...

Senate Republican Leadership Now Unanimously Opposes Pro-Abortion Kagan

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Sen. Lamar Alexander, the Tennessee Republican who is the chairman of the Senate GOP conference, announced his opposition today to the nomination of pro-abortion Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court. His announcement makes it so every top Republican lawmaker now opposes Kagan.

“I voted against the president’s nomination of Elena Kagan to be Solicitor General and I will vote against her confirmation to the Supreme Court for the same reason," Alexander said today in a statement.

“President Obama won the election, and I am not surprised that he would nominate someone to the Supreme Court whose political and judicial philosophy is different from mine,” he continued...
